Big Hit Music announced on August 1 that CORTIS is the only K-pop boy group named to Billboard’s “21 Under 21” list this year. The annual ranking highlights innovative artists under 21 based on album and song sales, streaming numbers, radio and TV reach, plus overall industry impact and growth trajectory. The label noted the group’s rapid rise since debut, pointing to their first EP Color Outside the Lines landing at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 and the follow-up mini-album GreenGreen (released in May) debuting at No.
Formed under Big Hit Music the same label that launched BTS and TOMORROW X TOGETHER, CORTIS is a five-member unit (Martin, James, Juhoon, Seonghyeon, and Keonho) that debuted in August 2025. All members were under 21 at the time of the list, with ages ranging from 17 to 20. Positioned as a “young creator crew,” they write, produce, and shape much of their own material. Their debut EP surpassed two million sales, while GreenGreen delivered strong first-week figures and extended their Billboard presence. They have also performed at high-profile events including the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game Halftime Show and are preparing for Lollapalooza Chicago alongside an international tour.
International fans responded with pride and celebration online. Many highlighted the rarity of a K-pop boy group earning the solo nod on the list so early in their career, sharing Billboard interview clips where the members reflected on chart milestones and the pressure young artists face to deliver results quickly.
Fan accounts circulated the official recognition graphics and quoted the group’s comments about authenticity and staying true to their creative process, framing the placement as validation of their boundary-pushing approach just under a year after debut.
