On July 3, South Korea’s National Heritage Administration announced that G-Dragon has been appointed promotional ambassador for the 48th UNESCO World Heritage Committee session the first time the event is being held on Korean soil. Set for July 19 to 29 at Busan’s BEXCO, it will welcome more than 3,000 participants from 196 countries.
This choice makes perfect sense when you look at GD’s journey. Beyond being Big Bang’s creative force with chart-topping albums and innovative stage concepts, he founded the JUSPEACE Foundation in 2024 through copyright donations. The foundation is rolling out the “Heritage in Peace” campaign starting July 10 alongside UNESCO. It aims to raise awareness and encourage donations to the World Heritage Fund, directing resources toward sites endangered by war, climate shifts, and natural disasters. GD himself expressed genuine enthusiasm: “It feels profoundly meaningful to serve as ambassador for this landmark event in Korea. World heritage belongs to all of us, and I hope to share a message of peace that inspires collective action.”
